In the short story father and son written by Owen Marshall an event took place that could be life changing for the father and son’s relationship.
Norm’s son left school and was waiting in the bushes for him to finish work. The boss and the assistant walked over to Norms shed and gave him a verbal warning about how he wasn’t doing his job properly. They were making fun of his name and he just accepted the abuse, for example “He’s not a pansy isn’t he” and he didn’t even stand up for himself.
Before this event the boy admired his father, they spent a lot of time together and they were building a slot car track. They talked a lot about how they could make the slot car track better. Every spare moment the kid had they would be in the shed together working on it rather than hanging out with his friends.
After the event the boy was embarrassed for his father because the bosses verbally abused him and there family name. The father didn’t stand up for himself and Norm son was very angry. This was shown by him breaking a part of the slot car track. His mum told norm he was sorry for what he did. But his son distanced himself from his dad by going off and playing soccer with his mates.
In conclusion it is important to stand up for your self and don’t let other peoples behaviour influence how you feel about yourself or others.
