The Scarlet Letter

In the novel, The Scarlet Letter, I do support the justice system’s decision for what they did to Hester Prynne. The Scarlet Letter is known for the Puritan lifestyle. The Puritans were always known to be very religious people. The type of religion they had consisted of everyone being perfect and no one was to commit any type of sin.   Everyone knows that not everyone can be perfect but they still want you to do no wrong. Well one of their fellow people in The Scarlet Letter, Hester Prynne, disregarded their religion and committed adultery.   The people of the justice system were very strict towards her because of the decision she made.   Hester`s punishment was to wear a Scarlet A on her chest for the rest of her life.   By wearing the Scarlet A for the rest of her life, it would destroy who she was because everyone would know about her and know that she committed adultery.   Surprisingly, she wore the Scarlet A with courage and confidence. Hester even stitched the Scarlet A in gold thread.   The second thing Hester Prynne had to do was stand for three hours on a platform of the pillory in the marketplace where people could see her.   What Hester Prynne did was wrong and she should have never slept with another man while she was already committed and married to another man. Now Hester Prynne has to face the consequences for the sin she has done.
Another reason why I do support the justice system for punishing Hester is because it proves that people do not joke around with such a serious offense and they will take action to what the people have done wrong. The justice system not only wanted to humiliate Hester Prynne but also to cause her pain that never expected.   Hester committed adultery, broke her marriage, and disobeyed her religion, so she had to pay the consequences and she did in this situation.   Hester was more of an example to the village people, by doing what they did to Hester and it scared the town’s people and it let them know to...
