In today’s world, terrible crimes are being committed daily. Many people believe that these criminals have to be executed property. Death penalty is the maximum sentence used in punishing people who commit serious crimes against human being like homicide, rape of children, and so on. It is a very controversial method of punishment. Criminals convicted of murder or rape need to be executed because they are danger to society and the human race. There are some kinds of punishment that can be applied based on what the criminals do. There were a lot of cases that criminals were sentenced death penalty. Some people think that capital punishment is efficient. Nevertheless, other people still argue that death penalty is brutal, for it kills human beings. Capital punishment is such a debatable topic. The question of whether we actually need death penalty is discussed and debated upon in every states and national legislature throughout the country. The hot debate over capital punishment has continued for years. In recent years, the debate has heated up in the U.S. following the Supreme Court imposed moratorium on capital punishment. Currently, several states are considering a change in their policies regarding the status of the death penalty. For example, in Massachusetts, the House of Representatives voted down a bill supported by the governor to reinstate death penalty. Capital Punishment is regarded by most as a successful deterrent to murder, but that is because these people do not look at it as it is applied. According to retributivists such as Kant and Van Den Haag the guilty deserves to be punished. On the other hand, people against the death penalty like Bedau think that the death penalty is just as much an effective deterrent as life in prison. In fact, capital punishment has both advantages and disadvantages.
