These days, the influence of advertisement becomes increasingly powerful in reality. Therefore, both the variety of mainstream and the effect of advertisement start changing the world. Kilbourne describes her thesis, “Pornography, which can be considered one of mainstream (trends) in the real world, is more dangerous mainstream when its glorification of rape and violence show up in mass media.” Meanwhile, Kilbourne stipulates another thesis, “male violence is subtly encouraged by ads that encourage men to be forceful and dominant, and to value sexual intimacy more than emotional intimacy.” Both pornography and violence hurt women in reality, so I agree with Kilbourne’s thesis statements. The advertisement I show below with clothes supports her thesis because there is an abundant amount of pornography and violence in the advertisement.
The first advertisement I chose covers mainly fashion and advertising, Dayan's portfolio is enough to make the less restrained men want to mount the nearest female. Proving that sex sells, the photography is dark, moody and powerful with one series even incorporating murder into the equation. There is a slim lady, wearing a sexy black nightgown, which can be exchange of a touch on her slippery thigh from a gentleman. It shows “the way that advertising often encourages women to be attracted to hostile and indifferent men.” This advertising tend to lead someone down the wrong path like committing crimes such as rape and violence, it is particularly dangerous for the youth who are easily indulge in pornography. In this advertising, the sexy girl seems trying to shove his hand out slowly. But obviously what the girl is doing makes no difference to change her situation. In her view, men have physical advantages and are relatively aggressive while comparing with women. This is exactly what i learn in this advertising. His hand is so strong and powerful(explain more) and it arise my sense of protection on the girl. Hence, I totally agree...
