This manual if designed to make you a better supervisor than you were yesterday and make your style of leadership encompass the entirety of what it means not only to be a supervisor but an effective one with leadership skills that will allow you to motivate and lead your team over any obstacle that you may encounter. First ask yourself what it means to you to be a supervisor is it a person in a position of power in a company, or an individual that has the ability to make others do what it is you want, or is it a person that has greater responsibilities then those who work under you? Well each of these examples are true to an extent but the main meaning of a supervisor is a individual that has to use every resource at their disposal to bring a team of individuals together to reach a common goal and to do this you need to have several traits that are either inherent or learned and in this manual we will attempt to convey every needed aspect of being an effective leader of people. As you read this you will begin to understand the key aspects that make a supervisor valuable in a work setting by moving through the following topics. Demonstrating useful communication skills, determine effective orientation and training methods, improving productivity for teams, conducting performance appraisals, resolving conflicts that you may encounter, and improving the employee relations within the company. Once these topics are mastered you are well on your way to becoming a successful supervisor in any company that you may find yourself.
I cannot state enough the importance of becoming competent in each of the topics that are included in the manual because it is the foundation of a proficient supervisor and as we all know the foundation of any structure is what the rest of the body is built on so a weak foundation correlates to a weak supervisor.
