''The people of the Bahamas are daily coming more and more in contact with Key West on the Florida coast ''.This statement made by L.D.Powels in source A has been used to illustrate and emphasize the migration from the Bahamas   to Florida.However,with information and facts taken from sources provided including my very own opinion .I will explain my views of how the Bahamas has been socially and economically effected.The Bahamas experienced many effects during the early 20th century including negative and positive.During the later outward movement of labourers to Miami it eventually included most able bodied-men thus,causing a decrease in the population.In 1901,the census for that year was low due to the fact of migration to Florida. The estimate of female was twenty-eight thousand seven hundred and thirty five and for the males was about twenty-five thousand.The population for males in the Bahamas was   decreasing slowly.In 1911,there was only about four thousand nine hundred and seventy-five males in the bahamas but on the other hand the population for the females began to rise.Also yet another pattern had emerged in the migratory flow to Miami this time wives and children increasingly joined husbands who had settle there.With this happening the bahamas lost labour due to the migration of young men.It was noted at one point that if all the men would not return to take care of their lands it will begin to deteriorate.The Bahamian economy was forced into an economic squeeze.In 1916,the Commisioner of Long Cay,Fortune Island ,stated that at the end of the year there were approximately two hundred people on the Island but, only twenty-four men willing or able to work.The intercensal rate of growth for the years 1891-1901 was 11.5 per cent but between 1901 and 1911 it had slowed to 4 percent .In the years 1911-1921,the population declined by 5.5 percent.Even though the censuses do not ,by themselves   provide us with exact emigration figures, I think it is possible to...
