Week Eight Reflective Paper
Human Resource is the major product of the human relations movement in the early time of the 20th century. In the early 20th century researchers started documenting all different ways of how business create business values through the strategic management of their workforce. The researchers found that the main function was initially dominated by transactional work and two examples are payroll and benefits administration. From the 20th century to the present Human Resource Management has evolved from to function to many strategic initiatives like mergers and acquisitions, talent management, succession planning, industrial and labor relations, and diversity and inclusion. In my reflective paper I want you to come away with the understanding of how HR has the power to shape organizations, employee behavior, breakdown the learning of the class, and how HR can impact the future of business and me.
Equal Employment Opportunity is an act that prohibits discrimination in the work place against anyone. The EEO attempts to ensure that everyone that applies for employment as in males and females and all races have a fair opportunity in the companies hiring process and also when they are competing for promotions, and all access to any trainings/professional development opportunities. Affirmative Action is a remedy to address past practices of discrimination. Affirmative Action was designed to help people get a level playing field when it comes to women, races, those with disabilities, and minorities. When minorities is brought up they typically are talking about African Americans, Hispanics, Asians, and American Native American. Affirmative Action does not mean that companies are expected to hire those that are unqualified applications.
