Young people who are bullied are more likely to skip school or completely drop out. Statistics show that 60 percent of boys who were bullies in middle school had at least one criminal conviction by the time they were 24. They have made an Anti-Bullying law that will allow teachers and students to anonymously report perceived incidents of improper behavior. A majority of teachers and school administrators do not take this law
(2013) said that, "We cannot continue to dismiss bullying as a harmless, almost inevitable, part of growing up." "We need to change this mindset and acknowledge this as a serious problem for both the individual and the country as a whole; the effects are long-lasting and significant." According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention 20 percent of U.S. students in grades 9 through 12 were bullied at some point in 2011. Bullying should be a crime, there are kids out there that are killing themselves because of what other kids are saying about that person. It's just horrible.
Evidence suggests that direct bullying seems to increase throughout primary school years, peaking in the final years of primary school and the beginning years of high school, then show a decline during the senior years of high school. There are many different ways a person can be bullied, ways that are not limited to verbal, physical, social and psychological. Bullying can occur due to a perceived difference, again, not limited to age, sex, religion, sexuality or cultural background. Much of what researchers have discovered about school bullying is strongly linked to workplace bullying, however, the numbers in each vary. Evidence suggests that in schools the trend seems to suggest the one in six Australian children are bullied weekly, and that 20-50 per cent of children are bullied at some point throughout their school life.
| | NAME: Thurman Brian Royal THESIS: Bullying can be stopped in schools. INTRODUCTION: It’s time to take action against bullying. Youth Violence in Schools American InterContinental University Abstract During this paper, I will discuss youth violence in schools, and how the media has portrayed it. I will focus on the urban schools since it has the bulk of stigmatism resulting from public opponents with who placed blame on the parents opposed to the type of community these children are forced to be a part of. In addition, there is Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), which is the cause of many of these youths acting out. lastly, acknowledging the social groups and parents who are trying to aid with being positive in fighting those stigmas and obstacles by educating them and giving them different types of avenues to spend their time. Violence in Schools I chose Youth Violence in Schools as the topic for my post.
The movie explores the relationship amongst high school students who are socially separated, are forced together and find that they had more in common than they initially thought. The symbolic interaction theory supports this result saying, “Education emerges depending on the character of social interaction between groups in schools [and] schools are sites where social interaction between groups influences changes for individual and group success” (Margaret L. Anderson, 2008). Before the movie begins there is a quote from musician David Bowie saying, “..and these children that you spit on as they try to change their worlds are immune to your consultations. They are quite aware of what they’re going through…” (Changes, 1972). The song expresses how people are aware of society’s views, so people try to change what society thinks of them and when they are trying to change they ultimately ignore what society thinks.
Like if a bully told you “your shirt is ugly, only old people wear that”, then obviously they are trying to help you not dress like your great grandma at school. As you can see, bullies were really put on this earth to point out your problems so that you can improve on them and become a cool kid; because if you are not cool then you’re obviously going to get bullied. An average 7 out of 10 students have admitted that being bullied has helped them become more popular at school. This is an extremely nice thing for bullies to do for
Machell Thomas Bullying Help Bullying has been an issue in school for many decades. Many sources have stated that in the United States alone 20% of students in one single school have reported being bullied in some form. “The most common definition of bullying is a repeated oppression, psychological or physical, of a less powerful person by a more powerful person or group of persons” (Bullying 1). “Young people who are being bullied are especially likely to feel trapped and alone because they usually don’t have a choice about where they live, go to school, or play” (Bullying 1). Some people and sources feel that West Virginia schools are not doing enough to help protect and show kids why bullying is wrong, but with the extent of research
Recently, the students and administration have had an issue involving cheating in the classroom, because of the high bars in today’s testing. II. Body Paragraph 1 c. A society is controlled by the education that it offers, and sometimes to form a high society; teachers, students, and their administrations will occasionally cheat. d. Detectives in New York established that 52 educators at 32 schools were cheating (Koch). e. For example, educators can be known to boost the students test scores in order to keep their job or get an increase in pay (Koch).
Younger children believe that cheating is wrong but that it is acceptable in some instances. In elementary school children break or bend the rules to win games against their peers. But as they get older- around junior high- they begin cheating on academic work. “Cheating peeks in high school when about 75%of students admit to some kind of academic misgivings”. In schools cheating has become so socially acceptable that students think that it is okay to cheat.
