The very concept of dumbing down can relate to many things, though usually it points to the simplification of culture, education and thought. Contemporary culture in particular, has become the victim of a violent onslaught, an on-going conflict between creativity and a seemingly innocuous stupidity. Though (and to the detriment of mental health) the birth of a creative-stupidity seems to be the sole outcome of this warfare and modern culture has now established a maladaptive approach to human innovation. The establishments’ artificial and machine packaged entertainment may have directly resulted in a generational void of artistic appreciation. Maybe humans have reached their creative peak? Or maybe something suspiciously sinister is emerging at an alarming pace.
Television is of the most widely commended inventions of the twentieth century. Since it's conception and introduction to the market the television has become an essential item for the modern home. To own one has become even more than an expectation, it is now almost obligatory to own. Without one, you may run the risk of being marginalised and ostracised. The common dislike of incongruity and innate lethargy has led to a dependence on television for entertainment and also as a source of information.
