First draft.
A Big Mistake
It was two am in the peaceful morning. Neighbors were dreaming, the trees were resting, only the sound of breezing of the wind was audible; the surrounding was in its deepest tranquility. Prasit Jaikumdee was asleep after a long day of hard work, which only subsist his family for a day. Farming has never been a good idea of a job, especially in this drought season where investment cost risen, and payment became more costly. During this season almost every farmer broke, and often ended up quitting the job. However for those insolvent, such an alternative seems impossible. All of the sudden, a scream broke off the silence; it was his wife, his pregnant wife.
“What’s wrong honey?” Prasit hurriedly
“I think my water just broke” Dang whispered with her shaking voice. Prasit was suddenly alarmed, he could nott do anything but flustered around the place.
“Call the midwife!” She finally shouted, reached her maximum attempt in waiting for his husband to get his mind in place.
Couples of hours later, after a long lasting scream of pain, a child was born. He was sleeping peacefully in his mother’s arms. A smile brightly appeared on Daeng’s face, along with the excitement of Na, the older brother who enthusiastically talking to his first born brother. As a mother, Daeng watched him adorably.
“What should we name him?” asked Na, looking up facing his mother.
“What should we name him dad?” he repeated the question again but facing his father, looking for an answer.
“Let’s see… how about Rai? Na and Rai. Since we are all working on a farm.” In response, everyone nodded in agreement. At the same time, Prasit watched his elder son and his wife laughed, so pure and innocent, so delicate and meaningful that he would not want it to disappear.
