Abortion


Abortion is something that I can argue both for and against. I believe that I am a Christian and I was raised to believe that, “thou shalt not kill”. In my church they never mention the word abortion as pertaining to death. I truly feel that there can be arguments for it and against it and that no one side has the advantage. Life is about making choices and our maker and society gives us freedom to choose. It is those choices that will decide if we are morally right or wrong. And no matter what decision we make there will always be someone who will agree or disagree. But, then there are those like me, who will straddle the fence and are undecided about who is right or wrong.
If you look at the news or read a newspaper, you often see where mothers have murdered their child/children. They put them in garbage cans, microwave ovens, dryers and drown them in bath tubs. To me, these are children that are not wanted, so why wait until they are born to torture them. Abortion is legal in most states and many women choose to have an unwanted child and then go to jail for murder, rather than to get a legal abortion.
Another instance that I feel warrants an abortion is rape and incest. When a women is rape they feel violated and scarred. These feeling can lead to irrational behavior. And if they don’t feel that they can handle pregnancy then they should have the right to terminate their pregnancy. This kind of trauma will live with a woman for the rest of her life. Even though the victim’s problems stem for the rape or incest rather than the pregnancy, some women want abortions. These are some of the reasons abortion was legalized in the first place. The legalization of abortion was held up as a panacea for this. It would reduce unwanted pregnancies and lower the incidence of child abuse.
The percentage of rape pregnancies that are aborted are less than half. Most women carry the baby to term.
