The catapult Project
1. Introduction
Our mission:
The “Statapult” transporter is currently unreliable and may not be capable of achieving acceptable performance. We need to transport the volunteers not only to the desired location but also achieve this consistently over time. We need to test and provide re-assuring performance data that will enable the mission to be successful.
Our Target:
To achieve a process that enables us to reliably launch at/close to the target distance, with launches at time intervals of 10 seconds or less, regardless of which operator runs the Statapult.
Team Member assignments (6 team members): Two members are in charge of measuring the distance; 1 member is in charge of measuring the time; 1 member is in charge of recording data into Minitab; 1 member catches the ball and hands it back to the person at the catapult. Member roles switch according to an agreed structure.
General decisions how to use the catapult:
1. We decided to always us an angle of 150 degrees to shoot the catapult
2. After a few trail we agreed that an angle of 150 degrees leads to a target of 2.3 meters.
3. We used two flip chart papers and draw lines of +/- 10 cm from the target.
4. Data measurement is done by two persons visually that together agree on the data.
5. Use ipod-timer to record the time during every 2nd launches. The timer we used can continuously record the time during every 2nd launches without stopping launching or writing down the data during one run.
2. First Round
Group approach to shoot the catapult
Pin the catapult by one hand to keep the catapult stable and launch the catapult by the other hand. Each of our group members intends to launch quickly with homogeneous speed at about 10 seconds. We also intend to switch operator quickly with homogeneous speed at about 10 seconds.
