Chage In A Character

In the play Macbeth written by William Shakespeare a main character that changes to become less admirable is Macbeth. He changes from being a loyal, brave soldier who is dedicated to his country, King and wife to a fearful, guilty man, who because of his greed became a character who is less admirable.

At the start of the Play we are introduced to Macbeth as a courageous warrior who wins a very important battle and saves Scotland from the Norwegian King. To honour his bravery and service to his country King Duncan gives Macbeth the tittle of Thane of Cawdore. “For brave Macbeth- well he deserves that name, - disdaining fortune, with his brandish’d steel, which smoke’d with bloody execution” This tells us that Macbeth fought bravely against Macdonwald’s and fully deserves the new title that has been given to him.

The three witches are the first people to bring out his greed with the prophecy that he will become the Thane of Cawdor and then the King of Scotland “All hail Macbeth, hail to thee, Thane of Cawdor!” “ All hail Macbeth, that shalt be King hereafter! When the first prophecy comes true, Macbeth immediately falls into temptation and begins to go after greater power. He starts to loose some of his admirable qualities after realizing that in order to become what the witches promised he must kill Duncan and take over his throne.

But Macbeth is soon dismayed by his own thoughts and decides that he cannot Murder Duncan who is a good man and King and chooses to leave the prospect of him becoming King to chance. “If chance will have me King, why chance may crown me without my stir.” This shows us that he still has admirable qualities within him.

The evil thoughts that was clouding his thoughts left him temporarily but are brought back by his wife Lady Macbeth as she soon reads Macbeth’s letter, she decides for herself that Duncan must be Killed so her husband and herself can become King and Queen. “and...
