Global Communications is a company facing financial strain in a highly competitive market. In order for them to relieve that strain, they must implement a strategic plan that will drastically affect key stakeholders within the company. The company faces the challenge of correctly handling the fallout in executing this strategic plan. The Gap Analysis will explore the aspect of utilizing effective communication in dealing with the challenges the company faces.
Situation Analysis
Issue and Opportunity Identification
Global Communications was facing a competitive squeeze in the telecommunications industry. They were dealing with steadily declining profits and a 50% stock deprecation in a three year span (University of Phoenix, 2007, p.1), pushing them to negotiate 20% benefit cuts in education and health benefits (University of Phoenix, 2007, p. 3) with the Technologies Workers Union. The senior staff had to configure a plan that alleviated some financial strain and expanded their market base beyond competition.
As a team, they comprised a plan of expansion in their globalization market and outsourcing consumer service jobs. The team did not consult with the Technologies Workers Union during the planning of the globalization expansion. It was not until after the board of Global Communications, accepted the plan that the team consider solutions how many layoffs, employee retainment, and “concerns of publicly looking inconsistent with their saying that their competitive advantage comes from loyal employees” (University of Phoenix, 2007, p.3) . Maria Antez, Vice-President of the Technologies Union, and liaison to the company, along with employees were indirectly informed of the globalization plan and its acceptance. They did not receive any direct communication on behalf of the company in regards to the globalization expansion.
