Agree or disagree the following: Originality does not mean thinking something that was never thought before; it means putting old ideas together in new ways.
The oxford dictionary of English defines original as “That is the origin or source of something; from which something springs, proceeds, or is derived; primary.” The oxford dictionary of English defines originality as “The quality of being independent of and different from anything that has gone before; novelty or freshness of style or character, esp. in a work of art or literature.” Originality does not mean to think something that has been never thought. Originality means the thoughts or an idea which has spurred is genuine and is not copied from others. Weather the idea or thought is invented or realized before or not the original idea remains original if it has come independently.
Sometimes it has been seen that many ideas or researches were done by two different persons in history which were similar but done independently. It does not mean their ideas were not original. Their ideas just come up at same time and both were original. There are so many examples in which two researchers’ research was exactly same but done by using different methods and at different place. In that case both researchers’ ideas were genuine and we can say them original. For example Sir Isaac Newton and Leibniz both found calculus independently. Sir Isaac Newton is famous for his work in mathematics and physics, especially in the fields of calculus, optics and gravitation. Leibniz is the other inventor of calculus. Leibniz and Newton argued over the ownership of their discoveries, each staking a claim as the inventor of calculus. But both were the inventor of the same thing and both are honored for their invention of calculus now.
Originality is not only about doing research independently or inventing something new but it is about creating something by our own without coping someone’s idea. The...
