There are lots of beautiful monuments in Brazil. Christ Redeemer is one of them. This statue is located in Rio de Janeiro city on the Corcovado Mountain. If you are planning to stay in Rio de Janeiro, for a day or do not have much spare time, I suggest visiting the Corcovado. The Corcovado receives crowds of tourists all year round, making it hard to find a quiet place to rest or take pictures. The statue of Christ Redeemer is about 38 meters high and is at the top of the hill of Corcovado, which is 740 meters above sea`s level. Christ Redeemer was inaugurated in 1931, and took five years to be done. The statue was made by the French sculptor Paul Landowski Maximilien, which, curiously, never visited his work. The large landmark is a beautiful statue of Jesus Christ with open arms. Christ Redeemer is known in the world because is the new 7 wonders of the world, symbol of Christianity, and tourism.
Christ Redeemer was elected as one of the New 7 Wonders of the Modern World, voting conducted by the Internet and cell phone messages, organized by the New 7 Wonders Foundation, Switzerland, from 21 participants from monuments the whole planet. The first wonder to be announced was the Wall of China, followed by the city of Petra, in Jordan, all built with stone. And then, Christ Redeemer. Soon after, were announced as a wonder Machu Pichu in Peru, Pyramid of Chichen Itzá in Mexico, the Coliseum of Rome, and Taj Mahal in India. Among the most well known and who were in the final, left out the Eiffel Tower in Paris, and the statue of Liberty in the United States.
Christ Redeemer is a religion catholic’s symbol. Brazil is considered the largest Catholic country in the world, with approximately 74% of population following this doctrine.
