Erikson’s Personality Development comparison to “Frailty” Eric Williams Psychology of Personalities Mercy College May 16, 2011 In this paper I will briefly summarize the movie “Frailty.” I will also analyze a characters behavior and personality according to Erik Erikson’s Stages of Personality development. Characters in this film show signs of repressed memories, conflicted childhood, inferiority complex and identity crisis. The movie “Frailty” is told through flashbacks, as a mysterious man (Matthew McConaughey) tells a terrible tale to an FBI agent who is investigating the “God’s Hand” serial killer case. The man grew up in a small town in Texas, where he and his brother lived a rustic life with their kindhearted widower father. One night, the father awakens the two boys, Fenton and Adam, and tells them that he had a vision, and that God has chosen him and his sons to help Him destroy demons who walk the earth in human form. He tells the boys they can never tell anyone about the vision. After a few days, the father comes home from work with a list of names that he claims an angel has given to him. He then begins abducting people, bringing them home, one by one, and having the boys watch while he lays his hand on them. After having proven to his mind that they are demons and not human, he would chop them up with an axe while the boys look on. The youngest, of the two boys, Adam is eager to participate, seeing his family as kind of superheroes. While the older Fenton is distraught and thinks he’s father is a murderer and that he has lost his mind. Fenton contemplates running away and taking his brother with him, but his brother wants to stay and believes their father. Being reluctant to leave his brother behind, he eventually goes to the authorities, where he runs to the Sheriff and tells him everything. The Sheriff doesn’t believe him and brings him back
