In today’s world backup of all information saved on computers is a necessity. Anything can happen that can put your information at risk, and can destroy important information, that if you do not have backed up can be completely destroyed, which may never be able to get back, or if it is possible, may be too time consuming. Anything can happen that can cause information to be destroyed, such as a hacker, a virus, or natural disaster such as floods, fires, or earthquakes. All of these things can cause damage to a computer which in turn can cause the information saved on the computer to damaged or destroyed. This is why backup is a necessity, to help save this important, vital, information and saving a lot of time. There are a lot of different types of storage available for computer systems to keep a backup of all information. These types include external drives, CD-RW, USB flash drive, online backup and storage. An external drive is a zip drive that uses specialized disks, or zip disks that can store a lot of information. The pros of this device are that includes backup software, it has a range of storage options and is portable. The cons of these devices are the investment of the hardware, and the zip disks. CD-RW is a special compact disc that information can be burned onto as long as a CD-RW drive is available on the computer. The pros of this device are newer computers come with the CD-RW drive standard, the discs can hold up to 700mb of information, they are portable, since they are Re-Write discs, they can be used over and over again, and they are inexpensive. The cons of the CD-RW discs are if your computer does not have the CD-RW drive one will need to be purchased, it may be possible to lose backup information if it is accidently copied over, and older CD players cannot read CD-RW discs.
