Young & Old Love Black & Gold
The generation gap discribes the differences between younger and older generations. This phenomenon occurs “when older and younger people do not understand each other because of their different experiences, opinions, habits and behavior” (Wikipedia Encylopedia, 1). Bridging of this gap is difficult and sometimes impossible. However, the closing of the generation gap in Pittsburgh has been accomplished with the catalyst known as the Pittsburgh Steelers. Steeler fans, whether teenages or those of older generations bond semmlessly, through their love for heroes, the ll black and gold colors, and the Steelers pride, shared by generations when the Steelers take the field.
If you’re a Pittsburgh Steeler fan, it does not matter what generation you’re from, everyone knows who the heroes of the team are. The current heroes of the team are Ben Roethlisberger, Heins Ward, Willie Parker, James Farrior, and Troy Polamalu. Roethlisberger, Ward, and Parker are known as the Steelers’ big offenseive weapons, who always come up with the big plays when needed. Farrior and Polamalu, Defensive Captins, are known for the big hits on defense and their exceptional skills to read the oppent’s offense. Although heroes of past generations like, Jerome Bettis, Terry bradshaw, Franco Harris, Lynn Swann, Mean Joe Green, and Jack Lambert are not forgoten either. All generations of Steeler fans know who these superstars are and their superhuman feats on the gridiron.
Black and Gold, the Steelers colors, also became the colors of the city of Pittsburgh. Whether football, hockey, or basball, the professnal sports teams of Pittsburgh wear black and gold as their primary colors. The people of Pittsburgh love their Steelers, and they love shoving it down the throats of opposing fans.
