It was 5:00 am and the bus was almost here. I was excited but I was nervous just as much as the other 300 people that were going to be my best friends for the next ten days. 5:15 am: the buses arrive and we all start to pile in. I waved goodbye to my parents and hoped for the best. 10:30 am: we arrive at Camp Pendleton in San Diego California. I had enlisted in the Devil Pups program.

The first day of the camp was physically demanding, mostly just running and push-ups. The next day was one of the toughest days of the program. A 5 mile hike up a mountain was in store for us. It was a very hard hike because I was very out of shape and I was still tired and sore from the first day. I was way behind everyone else and the gap between me and the group kept on getting bigger. I wanted to quit when one of the other kids in the group came down and walked with me. He kept on encouraging to keep going and then I wanted to really get up the mountain. I started to walk faster and then finally I was caught up with the group. Then I kept on going strong and I was up near the top. I was determined to get to the top and I gave all that I had. When I was at the top I felt so relieved and I felt good. My determination to get to the top helped me succeed in my goal. A couple days later we had to jump off of a 30 foot water tower. I was deathly afraid of heights so this was a big challenge for me. As I was standing at the top of the tower waiting to jump off I was pretty scared but I had to summon up the courage to jump. As soon as my turn came to jump off, I hesitated for a second then I jumped. It was one of the scariest but also best times in my life because I overcame my fear with courage. On the last day we had to do a very challenging obstacle course. While doing it our team leader had sprained his ankle. We all came together as a team taking turns carrying him so that he could get through the obstacle course and finish the program with everyone. The...
