Technology in Education
In the 1950s the television was used in classrooms for the first time, but wasn’t until the 1970s that some schools began to use mainframe and minicomputers. Since that time the use of technology has become a mainstay in the daily lives of people, especially in business applications. During the 1990s a majority of classrooms contained at least one computer and Internet access primarily for use by the teacher (Murdock, 2007). Today there are rooms and classes in schools devoted entirely to the computer and its functions. In many household one of the first things they do each morning is turn on the television then check the phone and computer to see if anyone has tried to contact them. Throughout the day technology is used repeatedly for work and for pleasure. The majority of jobs available today require at least basic computer skills. It is impossible to think that computers are not the way of the future because even the most trivial of jobs, such as working fast food, use computers. For that reason it is imperative that students learn to use technology effectively....
