Before making a business trip to another country or region, one should gain the knowledge about the culture in order to make the trip a success. The information that should be gathered must help the person understand the people they would be speaking to about business matters. They should learn about important matters that may offend them and understand that some subject matter or other small things that they would take lightly could be offensive to the people of another country. One should gather enough information that would help become confident in understanding the culture of the country and become a successful business person. Let’s take a look at the business culture of Turkey to understand what a person should study in order to make an international business trip a success.
When making a trip to Turkey, one should understand the religion of the people. The religion comes before business and a business person will have to work around the Muslim religion if they want to make good with the Turkish people. Turkey does not force a religion on to their people but about ninety-nine percent choose the Muslim religion. One should look into the main religion of the country and make note of their beliefs. There are two months that the Turks use to focus in on their religion and they consider this time when setting up meetings and other business matters. During the month of Ramadan, the people of the Muslim religion fast. This means during daylight they do not eat or drink. Due to their fasting many restaurants are closed during those times. While they are fasting they keep in mind about the people that suffer from hunger and take time to reflect on their ability of self-control. Along with fasting, the Turkish people have prayer five times a day. At the end of the fasting, the Muslims generally share their wealth with the poor and make donations to them.
