Plastic surgery has been one of the most popular innovations throughout a few years now. The problem with plastic surgery is that it has become popular among many teen girls that are in high school. In my opinion, plastic surgery should not be accepted in teens and parents should not fall for the excuses that their children give them for getting surgery. Surgery is something that should be done when you are in dire need of it. Plastic surgery should not be taken lightly amongst teens, because there can be serious risks associated with it. Now plastic surgery raises many questions; is it just an idea that teenage girls and young women have placed in their minds to make themselves look better or is it just a beauty enhancer to fix things?
The media has constantly given credit to the exemplary model of what a woman is supposed to look like. This inputs a lot of stress on women, because they feel as if they have to live up to those expectations. Women all over the world look up to these women and they see them as if they are completely perfect. The women that are out on the media are always doing something new to their bodies through the innovation of plastic surgery. Plastic surgery has caught on like wildfire and many teenage girls are having their parents invest thousands of dollars into their new assets. “The researchers found that patients who are dissatisfied with surgery may request repeat procedures or experience depression and adjustment problems, social isolation, family problems, self-destructive behaviors and anger toward the surgeon and his or her staff.” (Dittman) “In 2004, about 240,682 cosmetic procedures were performed on patients 18 years old or younger, and the top surgical procedures were nose reshaping, breast lifts, breast augmentation, liposuction and tummy tucks.” (Dittman) Parents need to control their teenagers and their wants, because it will not always have a positive effect on them.
