Ways that Americans Can Conserve Energy and Resources



Environmentalists have claimed that the resources of the earth, especially energy are in jeopardy. Many Americans did not pay attention to the warning signs, until it hit our wallets. Now there is a rising call for Americans to use less energy and resources. Whether the concern is for self-interest, due to higher cost, or genuine concern for the environment, Americans are finally realizing the impact we have. “Going Green” is now the popular thing to do. Over the past decade, natural resource is at a higher demand than ever. Therefore, alternative ways must be found in order to conserve them. Several ways to conserve the amount of these much-demanded resources are by using less electricity, conserving water, and cutting down our consumption of oil.
Electricity can be saved by doing something as easy as changing a light bulb. Using energy efficient light bulbs and appliances have become more accessible and not as costly. Also, it was reported that it is better to actually pull out the plugs from outlets than to just turn them off. Maybe getting surge protectors with multiple outlets would work because one can just pull the main plug for multiple appliances.
Another resource that we waste is water. There are many efficient things to do to conserve it. Washing only full loads of laundry can help. When doing this, it maybe a good idea to use cold water and not to pre-wash fabrics. High efficiency washers have dropped slightly in price. These new “HE” washers claim to use one-third less water. Also, try not to flush the toilet at night when possible. Some toilets use two to three gallons of water per flush. With a full house, just imagine the amount of water being wasted in one night. There is no need to water our grass and wash our vehicles so much. Turning the water off while brushing teeth is also habit one should start.
