Abstract:
This paper describes the positive and negative effects that social interaction has on the cognitive development of an individual. As we age, we are exposed to different people and it is these people that we learn from different reactions and ways of thinking. Parents, teachers, friends and peer groups are all people that we learn from. The interactions we have with these people helps shape the way we think, act and reason and it is with the help of these people that we develop our cognitive ability. There are outside factors, such as drugs and alcohol that can inhibit this development. Our entire life is a stage of different people having different impacts on our decision making. In the attached, that is what is discussed.
From the beginning of each of our lives, we all do the same thing: think. From the second we are born till the day we die, we are involved in constant decision making, reasoning and thought processing. Each stage of life presents a different level of this cognitive ability that can be formed or shaped through the social interactions we choose to make. When our parents teach us a lesson in life and when we make our first group of friends, each interaction is molding our cognitive development and teaching us thinking patterns that will aid in our own decision making. We can almost break one’s life down into these different stages and examine just how social interaction that occurs during them, effects our development.
The first and most obvious interaction we make that effects our cognition is the one we make with our parents.
