When asked to discuss and speak about an influential figure from the 20th century, the first image of an individual who comes to mind is Princess Diana. Lady Di, as many in the media referred to her, left an indelible mark on history not only within her own country, but also throughout the world. He image represents grace, humility, elegance, and class. In this brief analysis, the author will expand on Princess Diana’s life span development and the forces that may have influenced her life from the viewpoint of developmental psychology. Princess Diana Synopsis The name given to her at birth was Diana Frances Spencer, and she was the fourth child of Viscount and Viscountess Althorp. Diana was born into a British, aristocratic family, whose parents divorced when she was seven. After the divorce Diana remained in the custody of her father. In late 1975, Diana gained the title, Lady Diana after her father received the Earl of Spencer title (Encyclopedia of World Biography, 2012). Even at a young age, Diana was known as a shy person; however, this did not stop her from demonstrating interest in helping those in need, especially children. Diana worked as a kindergarten instructor in London, and enjoyed her time spent with children because she did not believe that schooling was an option. Although the media labeled Diana as a commoner, she had ties with royalty. As a child she would play with Prince Andrew and Prince Edward when her family would vacation at an estate owned by the Queen of England. She met Prince Charles, the older brother of her playmates in 1977, and their courtship caused quite an uproar at the palace and among the media. Although Charles was accustomed to the media, Diana was a new target (Morton, 1997).
