Facebook and Social Networking: Friend or Foe?
According to the article, “Facebook – Cautionary Tales for Nurses” Facebook recently announced that only six years after its creation, the social networking site currently has over 500 million users. There are obviously benefits to social networking that attracts its users. Something is keeping this going. Its popularity is insane. But at the same time, are there any drawbacks to Facebook and social networking? What are some of the consequences or negative aspects of sites like this? Let’s get a little more in depth of the pros and cons of Facebook and social networking, and my personal views of these controversies. Face book can offer many features to its users such as connection with friends, market business’s, and entertain them by playing a game. But with the amount of users on a single site that can look at your information and the wide spread dependency by today’s younger generation can also make social networking sites a burden to society.
With over 500 million users, Facebook is now one of the most popular social networking sites worldwide. It is no wonder that this site is so large, due to the immense amount of features that it offers. On face book you can, “have the ability to find old friends and reconnect with them, keep in touch with your friends, no matter how far apart you'll are physically., keep your friends and family members updated about what is happening in your life, promote yourself and any other work that you do, make many new like minded friends by joining various groups and communities, share your favorite music and videos with your friends, play many different games and use many different applications, communicate with your friends at any time you want.” (Thadani, Rahul) As well as connecting with friends face book is also a very good place to market, sell, and increase popularities in businesses....
