The history of the Earth shows us that the Earth is in a cycle where the temperature of the Earth fluctuates periodically. Studies have proven that the Cretaceous period is the warmest period that the earth has ever gone through. There are also studies that say that emission of CO2 gases from humans is causing the warming climate, but the natural gas methane is a much stronger player in global warming than CO2. Even if CO2 were causing the rising temperatures, it would devastate an economy to correct the problem. Weather the reason for global warming is from human actions or natural occurrences; the evidence compiled from millions of years of the Earth’s past is much greater than the 100 years of CO2 emissions.
Human actions have minimal to no effect on the Earth’s current warming. In fact, “global warming and cooling seem to be part of a 1,500-year cycle of moderate temperature swings”(Global). The facts that back up this 1,500-year warming cycle are to great to be over looked. Evidence from every continent and ocean confirms the 1,500-year cycle. Researches have found that the current warming began about 1850 and will possibly continue for another 500 years. The findings are drawn from physical evidence of past climate cycles that have been documented by researchers around the world from tree rings and ice cores, stalagmites and dust plumes, prehistoric villages and collapsed cultures, fossilized pollen and algae skeletons, titanium profiles and niobium ions, and other sources.
The Cretaceous period occurred over a hundred million years ago. It was the warmest period we have knowledge of yet. There was so much carbon dioxide in the air that the oceans had raised many meters. North America was flooded and split into two pieces. The temperature then was more than “10 degrees warmer” than the average temperature today (Beard).
