I Was There

I was there, and I did nothing. I watched as he beat her. I watched as he raped her and there was nothing I could do. What could I have done?? If I had even tried to do anything I would have had the same treatment. I know that sound selfish but then everything she did would have been in vain. My mum was the best person I knew. She was kind and she was loving. I may have been the only one to know that but she she was amazing.

He was my dad. Mum didn’t really want me because I was created by her nightmare. But she says that I’m her little angel, I’m the reason she doesn’t jump. The first time I ever witnessed of had reason to believe he had hurt her was when I was twelve. I saw plates and glasses smash into her body as he threw them at her. She didn’t do anything she couldn’t he had torn away at her confidence and left a hollow shell in its place.

She was always seen as the tough. You see if you insult anyone she loved like her friends of me, you would be in immense pain very soon. If you did anything to her though she would let you. Her friends thought it was because she didn’t care, but really she did care. She just already knew that she was worthless and she should kill herself because she was told that daily by my father. A man who had no heart and no soul.

The moment that changed my life though was the moment he murdered her. Mum and I were talking in the kitchen when he suddenly barged in and grabbed by the hair smacking her head against the edge of the oven. Blood was pouring down her face but she didn’t scream. She never screamed. This was the first time father ever hurt her in front of me and that scared me so much. He would never do this unless he was seriously mad. And he’s never been this mad before.
