French Impressionists Claude Monet

“A true painter can never be happy with himself.” Claude Oscar Monet was born on November 14th, 1840 in Paris. Monet’s technique included light, colors, and landscape. One may say that Monet was a man of nature, he enjoyed painting outside and was encourages to do so by Eugene Boudin. As most other Impressionists did and as a result of this they were called plein air, or “air open,” painters (Adams 430). In 1845 his family moves to Le Havre in Normandy and twelve years later his mother Louise Monet dies.
The Impressionists period evolved in France during the late nineteenth century and early twentieth century. The French Impressionists painters showed interest in entertainment, leisure activities, landscapes and cityscape (Adams 421). Art critic Felix Feneon wrote “In 1888 that the word “Impressionist was created for Monet and it fits him better than it does anyone else” (Pool 61). It has been said that “Monet is only an eye but my God what an eye” (Pool 61).
Monet is known for intricate brushstrokes and paint application that use overlapping and crosshatch techniques. Monet also used the basic elements of art, which encompass; value, hue, and saturation (Adams 17). He gave birth to remarkable works of art, which I felt significant to describe they include these three Water Lilies, Charing Cross Bridge and the Railroad at Argenteuil.
The art exhibit that I critically analyzed, displayed an excellent array of pastel colors, positive and negative space, and a depth of field, also referred to as the horizon line. Charing Cross Bridge 1903 (Siberling 81), a piece of art that contained an assortment of popular artistic elements such as, pastel colors. The colors include purple, pink, yellow, and green.
