1. Introduction

MoD Shoeburyness is not a ‘traditional’ factory environment as the deliverable product is generally data or a report. However, all the functions of a factory operation are present i.e. customer requirements, transformational operations that require design effort, purchasing of materials, manufacture and production of components and sub-assemblies, configuration and maintenance of machinery and equipment. In addition there is a rigorous Quality Environment Safety & Health (QUENSH) regime in place to structure operations. This assignment describes the process for one of our product streams i.e. the test and evaluation of current and future ammunition systems for UK Armed Forces.


2.1 The Trials Process
The process diagram at figure 1 below details the principle method of product realization for the trial or proof of an artillery munition from receipt of customer specification through to production of the customer deliverable, a report and trials data.

2.2 Capacity and Constraints

2.2.1 The capacity of the site is finite and controlled by the number and type of discrete operations that are being conducted concurrently. The overall capacity of the site is the conduct of 4 trials concurrently; based on 2 proof trials, one static detonation trial and one Military training activity.
