The highly diverse and heterogeneous textiles and apparel is a major sector for both the industrialized and the less developed economies, contributing both to wealth generation and employment
On shelf life of fashion items are short and therefore producers must keep pace with latest fashion style to maximize profit. Besides, organizations source globally for their materials to acquire cost benefits and meet fast moving and demanding consumer needs in time. Adopting lean, agile and leagile supply approaches in supply chain management would help to manage more cost effective and efficient.
Literature Review
Lean supply
Leanness means developing a value stream to eliminate all waste including time, and to enable a level schedule. (Naylor et al, 1999)
Lean logistics refers to the superior ability to design and administer systems to control movement and geographical positioning of raw materials, work-in-process, and finished inventories at the lowest total cost. (Bowersox, et al. 2003)
Lean manufacturing meshes today’s information technology with Toyota’s much-lauded just-in-time (JIT) approach, which has been adopted by many manufacturers, professed the importance of “getting the right things to the right place at the right time, the first time, while minimizing waste and being open to change” (James et al. 1991).
