Sigmund Freud was the founder of psychoanalysis, and the founder of what we know as psychology today. Freud displayed theories regarding feelings about ourselves, in which he stated could have been developed from jealousies,anxieties,and guilt regarding how we relate to other family members/friends and how they in turn view us. According to author Tony Romano, Freud's theories regarding family and the human kind were actually quite logical figuring Freud's experiences with friction and unwanted intimacy that existed within the boundaries of his family as a child. Without Freud's theories our understanding of psychology would be petite if at all existent.


Psychoanalysis is a personality theory based on the assumption that how we develop and behave is the result of impulses or needs that are unknown to us. In other words, what we are comes from forces unknown. People now go see psychologists because of problems they have developed mentally out of nowhere, and with reasons unknown to them. With that being said, that leaves the psychologists to analyze the patients newly developed mental problem (psycho-), bring the word into one and that creates what we know as psychoanalysis. Without Freud's initial discovery of psychoanalysis, who knows if that would even be logical in our society today? Sigmund Freud believed that we are guided by impulses and needs that didn't appear to the naked eye, which according to past and recent studies in the International Association of Psychology is correct.


Freud had a theory based on what he called the "Id". The id was a unit that contained all of our basic needs and drives, which included our libido (which is our main energy source that constantly seeks expression).
