Indeed, that education should liberate us in many different reasons. It gives us personal empowerment to change ourselves, our peers and our society. Krishnamurti believed that, students are being oppressed by the ideas that education should help us prepare for our vocation and have a better job. Malcolm X believed that, we shouldn’t be relying on getting a degree to be good at something we do, but on how we process it in our lives, how we can help one another to be able to understand the value of education. Peggy Orenstine studies shows, that there should be an equal opportunity on how students should advocate their opinions towards each other and have an equal opportunity to be respected by their peers.
Education should free us from the ideas that it is only the preparation for a better job, a lifestyle that is based on materialistic ideas. It should free us from the ignorance that surrounds us and have the knowledge of what is going on in the society. “To live is to find out for yourself what is true, and you can do this only when there is freedom, where there is continuous revolution inwardly, within yourself.” Krishnamurti, (2). We have to figure out what we would want to do in our lives other than having a better job, a degree that we need as a proof we accomplished the requirements a certain job needs. We need to make a change not only within ourselves but also towards our surrounding. “The world is torn by conflicting beliefs, by caste and class distinctions, by separative nationalities, by every form of stupidity and cruelty—and this is the world you are being educated to fit into.” Krishnamurti, (3). Not everyone is educated equally, if we value and understand the true meanings of being educated, then it would free us to change what we believe in.
