Malaysia is a country that combined of different cultures, races and traditions. The main reason we managed to get independence from being dominant from the ruler fifty one years ago is because of unites of all the races in Malaysia. Fifty one years ago, all the races fought together for the same target – independence and with all the efforts that made by each race, we succeeded.
Now, fifty one years later, many problems have started to occur among races. Malaysia becomes a country that lay more stress on racial distribution. They give all the preferential to the Malays that they are easier to get scholarship than other racial. We can see that every year, government scholarship like PSD and JPA scholarship are offering more to the Malays and only a small portion to other races like Indian and Chinese. However, we have to know that race is not supposed to be an issue in education. Races have nothing related to education but results of students. Since races should not be considered into education, we as a part of Malaysia should take action to solve this problem and lead Malaysia education to the better way. We should suggest to government to give scholarships based on merit and not based on racial distribution.
The government should give the scholarship to students who are qualified and eligible. Every year, there are many Malays that are not qualified enough that receive the scholarships just because that the government has to fill up the rest of the ratio. In the other way, there are many students from other races that are more than qualified but not chosen for receiving the scholarships from the government. For those who are not qualified for the scholarship, they may encounter with lots of problems on their studies in the future as they have weaker bases. For example, a student with 5A in SPM, not including Science subjects gets scholarship to study on Medicine. This will be very difficult for him as he has very weak base and his result does...
