Bead Bar Network

The management of the Bead Bar was brought a proposal for a network system. Keeping their options open, they elected to learn a little more about networking before making a final decision. The following shall present an overview of the Bead Bar’s situation and possible solutions to their networking queries.
The Bead Bar began their quest for a new network when they realized they wanted to move from paper-based records to the use of databases. It was discovered the Bead Bar’s data is too complex for the use of a flat-file database, so the use a relational database system was agreed on. A distributed database would be more efficient for the Bead Bar since they have multiple locations. Currently the Oracle’s Oracle 9i Database has been recommended for their networking solution. Oracle 9i is an enterprise database with the ability to handle data distribution. Although certain features may not fit the current budget of the Bead Bar, the use of Oracle 9i will allow the Bead Bar to add features in future growth. The owner has asked for advice on the configuration and use of networks. The network decided on must have the following qualities:
• No visible cables
• Each store is connected the their headquarters and possibly to each other
• Ability to access the corporate network from anywhere
• Budget minded
• Ability to send marketing materials (media files)
• Decent storage
Taken all the suggested needs into account the Bead Bar would do well with a network that that consisted of a client/server Local Area Networks (LANs) within each division. This network could be configured with the star topology, and then a hub would be needed to support that topology. A router would connect the LANs to each other. Because the LANs use a different standard than the Internet, a gateway is needed to connect the LANs to the Internet. Each franchise would be set up in a similar fashion and connected to each other via a Wide area...
