Based on encyclopedia, abortion is defined as the removal or expulsion of an embryo fetus from the uterus, resulting in or caused by its death. This can be done by almost anyone from the mother herself to back alley abortion and even abortions by clinic set up especially for this purpose.The spontaneous expulsion of a fetus or embryo before the 20th week of gestational age is commonly known as a miscarriage. Induced abortion is the removal or expulsion of an embryo or fetus by medical, surgical, or other means at any point during human pregnancy for therapeutic or elective reasons. Throughout recorded history, abortion has been induced by various traditional medicine methods, including botanical abortifacients, the use of sharpened tools, and abdominal pressure.
Every year, many women face the prospect of an unintended pregnancy. In deed, as many as half of the pregnancies in the United States every year are unintended. In addition, a small number of pregnancies are accompanied by severe medical complications for either the fetus or a mother. For both group of women, abortion is a serious consideration worldwide, there are approximately 26 million legal and 20 million illegal abortion per year. In the US, 20% of pregnancies are ended with abortions. Nearly 60% of abortion are performed on wo,em under age of 25, with teenager having the highest abortion rates. Poor nad minority women make up a disaproprortionate percentage of those having abortion, 31% of abortion in the Unoted States are performed on nonwhites, who constitute 17% of the overall US population. The majority of abortions (90%) are performed during the first 12 weeks of pregnancy and nearly all (99%) abortion are performed by the 21st week.
Nonetheless, women’s acess to abortion continues to be controversial. There are profound disagreements that fuel intense public debates over laws and policies aimed at restricting women’s access to medical proceedure. These...
