Algorithm – Step by step directions

Ex. Algorithm to Solve Inequality

Distribute                                             7-5(x+6) > 32
Combine like terms                             7-5x-30 > 22
Eliminate #s on the left side               (-5)x-23 > 32
(add 23 to both sides)
Combine like terms                           (-5)x-23+23>32+32
Divide both sides by co-efficient         (-5)x > 55

Loop in algorithm – A place where the process might have you re-do steps.

Terms to know:  
Greatest Common Factor(GCF)- The largest number that factors evenly into two or more larger numbers.
Ex. 12 is the largest number that will divide evenly into 36 & 48

Least common denominator(LCD)- The lowest common muliple of the denominator of two or more fractions.
Ex. N   M       = 144
36 48

* Then sum of the lengths of any two sides of a triangle is greater than the length of the 3rd side.

Ex.     3”   6”   10”   = not a triangle
        4”   7”   9”   = triangle
