OB #2
This week was once again a good week. I was able to organize myself to spend time with family and time reading my books. Spending time with family and friends has helped me keep my sanity. Being in Nursing School is very difficult especially for me. I have found that getting to memorize and learn to a lot of information at once in a very short time has become stressful. I really want to be able to understand all material very well for the safety of my patient. I also want to be able to understand what I’m doing to teach my patient all she/he needs to recover. I just love nursing very much and OB rotation has given me the opportunity to really enjoy and experience working with newborn and their families. I’m very close with my family and having the opportunity to me apart in some way of another family happiness’ is very nice.
My first complete week in postpartum and I must say I really LOVE IT. It was really all that I was expecting and more. Caring for the mother and baby is exciting. Providing comfort and pain management for the mother is very important. She needs to be in good health and comfortable in order to care for the newborn. I notice that has the nurse need to may close attention to both the mother and child. The mother is coming out from a exhausted labor and needs time to recover and regain energy to bond and feed the newborn. The newborn on the other hand, the nurse responsibility is to make sure the newborn is able to maintain good temperature, breath on his own and is getting adequate feeding. Caring a mother and a newborn is not an easy task. Complication can awaken at any moment and as a nurse we need to be very alert on the symptoms and signs a patient is demonstrating. I really enjoy getting the newborn footprints. Since parents love to keep the footprint as their precious memories I did the best that I could to get a good set of footprints.
