Many people enjoy having animals as pets or friends. While animals are treated well by most owners at home, there are those who mistreat them. The practice by scientists and researchers to use animals in place of humans in order to test drugs and products are immoral. Animal testing should be outlawed because it is not proven to be beneficial and it is cruel. The uses of animals in experiments are unethical and unscientific. The United States should pay more attention to animal rights, and should mandate alternatives.
Humans who treat animals cruelly are unethical because everyone like to be treated the same way. Many scientists and researchers do not care to think about how laboratory-tested animals feel because they cannot speak the same language that human can. Because of a different biological thinking, scientists and researchers take advantage of animals and use them as objects during testing.   Scientist George Wright writes that in 1983 at the University of Pennsylvania “150 baboons suffered brain damage as a result of hydraulic equipment smashing against baboons’ heads to simulate ‘whiplash’” (Wright).Due to brain damage, the animals that are being tested cannot use their mind to coordinate their movements. Therefore, the baboons’ mistreatment is unethical.
In addition to the unethical treatments, animals suffer cruel experiments. Author Andrew Breslin claims that “scientist working for agriculture industry will clone animals that produce more milk and meat simply as a means of improving profits” (Breslin). These experiments often harm the animals because the clones are not treated the same as the original life and are often abused. And cloning animals is pointless because many cats and dogs are available for adoption at animal shelters. Therefore, there is no need to create more animals when there are plenty in the world.
