Ending Global Hunger with Genetic Engineering
This world is not perfect but we do have to share it as a whole planet we should strive to help our neighbors. In today’s world, the most important business is growing enough food and ensuring that it reaches everyone. To feed our growing population, we need to increase global food production by 70% before 2050 (Office of Global Food Security, 2011). Is everything being done that can be done to solve this issue? Human have evolved so much since the Stone Age, however, humans have not yet found a way to feed the world. The future is coming, however, with such a high demand for food sources scientist have come up with genetic engineering of food sources. Is genetically engineered food safe? Many researchers do not reflect biotechnology is the solution to hunger, as a result, biotechnology raises various questions among some residents and farmers meanwhile and there is the theory that genetic engineered food is the key to eliminating global hunger.
What is Genetic Engineered food?
Although "biotechnology" and "genetic modification" commonly are used interchangeably, GM is a special set of technologies that alter the genetic makeup of organisms such as animals, plants, or bacteria. Biotechnology, a more general term, refers to using organisms or their components, such as enzymes, to make products that include wine, cheese, beer, and yogurt (Beddington, .J.R, et al., 2010). Genetically engineered crops are created not because they are productive but because they are patentable. Their economic value is oriented not toward helping subsistence farmers to feed themselves but toward feeding more livestock for the already overfed rich (Robbins .J, 2002). There are many reasons to be concerned about GM crops. The idea of meddling with something as fundamental to our...
