Crisis Intervention: Suicide A Christian Perspective Abstract Suicidal intervention is a crisis approach that necessitates proper training and education. A Christian perspective on suicide prevention and treatment is invaluable. Suicide facts and statistics are discussed. There are many different models of suicide intervention. For the purposes of this research paper, several approaches were combined to create a comprehensive plan for suicide intervention. Follow-up treatment is paramount as well as effective services for extended friends and family. Crisis Intervention: Suicide Introduction to Crisis Intervention Crisis intervention is an important aspect of counseling that touches almost every individual in some form or another. While the idea of a crisis tends to conjure up thoughts of panic or extreme distress, crisis situations occur in many forms, some much less obvious than others. The outcome of a crisis may depend on how well an individual copes with such upheaval in their life and whether they are able to garner the support and help they need. Those who are unable to receive help, for whatever reason, are often the unfortunate victims of the crisis. They are under enough stress that their coping mechanisms are inadequate to sustain their psychological state of health (Brown & Rainer, 2006). However, crisis situations are treatable and with appropriate help and counsel, many individuals are able to weather their storms, evolving stronger and healthier than prior to the actual crisis situation. Crisis intervention differs from traditional, long-term counseling in several ways. First and primarily, it has been found that long-term counseling is not as effective in crisis situations (Kanel, 2007). Rather, brief, short-term intervention has been found to be more productive.
