What happens when you use an electronic device for a long period of time? It gets overheated. That is what happens with our brain.
Good morning members of the jury, opposition team, audience, my name is Marlene Ortiz and this house believes that homework should be eliminated.

Homework refers to tasks assigned to students by their teachers to be completed after class, especially at home.
The basic objectives of assigning homework to students are the same as schooling in general: To increase the knowledge and improve the abilities and skills of the students. However, reality is different: we finish school between 5 or 6 o’clock in the afternoon, and we spend a lot of time being active. And what happens when you arrive home? You have to do homework. You’re not free and you don’t have any time to spend with your family, to practice a sport or simply to play with your pet. Homework is just a way to waste time. It’s supposed you have to learn and practice into a classroom, and just study in your home, but not repeat the same thing a thousand of times like if you were a machine. Does assigning fifty math problems accomplish any more than assigning five? Is memorizing word lists the best way to increase vocabulary—especially when it takes away from reading time ….The amount of homework has been increasing for the past couple of decades by 40%, and it can take more then 5 hours to complete it, so it’s doing more harm than good. But we should wonder what is really important: quantity of education or quality of education…..Isn’t more than 8 hours of school enough?

The best solution is to eliminate homework, but use the PURPOSES of it and do it in a classroom setting, in other words, use “SCHOOLWORK” instead of homework. It’s the same as the work hours in office jobs: people who work part time are more efficient and they are happier than people who work all day, according to a research made by Fundacion Futuro.
