Gambling Is An Addiction

Many people these days have certain devotion towards gambling, which they find is difficult to avoid or can’t resist. Gambling is to participate or play games of having chances to win. In most cases, win money. Even though it is a risky undertaking in which the odds against gamblers are very high, many people are addicted to it. This addiction to gambling is disastrous to individuals and their families. This has certainly inflicted some consequences upon these people. Many of them end up broke. It ruins the lives of thousands of individuals and their families, which may lead to break up of families. Also it results in greed and selfishness. That is why it is reasonable to exclaim that addiction to gambling is disastrous to individuals and their families.

Firstly, as a result of addiction to gambling, gamblers may end up broke. Some gamblers who are addicted don’t realize how much they’ve spent on gambling until they find out that they have nothing left to spend or find out that they are broke. This implies especially to the ‘rookies’ of gambling or the first timers. As soon as they get into it, they won’t stop. They could exceed their limit and end up loosing everything. An example of this is “Peter’s Story” taken from “The Age” (page 2) April 6, 2005. Peter is a small business man and father of four. He bets on race after race until his money ran out as he said himself, “You drain everything”. He was so addicted to gambling that he still gambled even though he had nothing to spend, which he justified, “You go home and find whatever you can to pay for another bet. I have taken money out of my wife’s purse. You just get so desperate.”

Furthermore, addiction to gambling ruins the lives of thousands of individuals and their families. This most probably implies to the adults or parents of the families since they are financially responsible of their wellbeing.
