Health experts have found that junk food is harming students’ health by allowing unlimited access to junk snacks. A recent study found 95 percent of snacks and drinks available in school vending machines and cafeterias are unhealthy. Only 2 percent of the foods offered at schools are fresh or dried fruit. The reasons junk food should be banned because it causes low level of nutrition in human body, health problems, and deforestation.
On the other hand, Some Americans think that there is no point banning junk food at school since it’s available at home and else where. Children will be even more anxious for junk food if we forbid them from it. But, that is way far from reality, the less opportunity children having fast food, the less chance they have to be diagnosed with diseases caused by junk food. Also, some other Americans think they have the right to choose eating junk food or not. Well, children can’t make logical decision by themselves; they won’t be called children if they knew how to make right choices.
First of all, fast food does not contain the necessary nutrition for kids to grow up healthy. All fast food provides is food with high level of sugar and protein which are only good to provide necessary energy. Children need vitamins to grow up. For example, they need vitamin D and Calcium for their bones to grow up healthy and strong. These vitamins can’t be found in junk food, but can be found in healthy food such as milk and bananas. In order for kids to be raised in a healthy way, they must stop or reducing eating fast food and start eating healthy food full of nutrition.
Also, fast food causes many health problems such as obesity and cardiovascular diseases. “Childhood obesity is a public health time bomb. If the government ignores it we will see huge increases in diabetes, strokes, cancer and heart disease - obesity has the potential to cause the same devastation as smoking," said Dr. Kailash Agrawal, a nutrition...
