Fake Bravery
BAM!!!
BOOM!!!
The smell of burnt rubber creeps to greet me. The intense waves of fire direct themselves my way. My face glowing all the brighter as the fire licks me with its dragon like tongue. Droplets of salty water try to get the heat under its control. It is too much. My face rejects it and stumbles back from the intense stress it is put in. My body follows its head.
NOOO!!! The voice tries to make itself sound like a mighty lion’s roar, yet it’s a mere croak. The siren’s wail snaps my attention. The tension dissolves out of my body and hope springs up from the depth. They have come to get him. They-- figures of angels dressed in royal blue and sinless white suits- face the heat. Their muscular arms grab the victim that is trapped and pull him just in time as the fire makes its final blow.
Beep. Beep. Beep. The victim is alright. Safely secured, monitored, and examined.
My uncle, the one in that hospital bed knocked out of conscious, is the cause for the tears swelling up in all the family’s eyes. Will he make it? What exactly happened? Can he hear us? All questions asked by the agonized expressions of the relatives, my family. Even my little sister is afraid of the worst.
As I embrace her, fresh new tears arouse in us both. I will be brave to say that he will be OK. She can not see my hopes down and those relatives of mine need a push from the hole their fear has put them in. Even as I comfort them and demand their faith be put to the test, I feel low and exhausted. My favorite song edges itself into my thoughts.
The song states that one should not be something they are not. Even though it may seem that I have this great aspiring faith, someone is able to see that I am at the end of my rope. Myself.
