There are many careers out in the world today, but one particular career I would like to pursue is that of a Registered Nurse or RN as its referred to most of the time. There are multiple positive attributes about being a RN such as helping people who are hurt or scared. For supply and demand in the medical field, there's a projected 1.7 million jobs to open between 2000-2012 for RN's in this country. Being a RN does not limit you to one designated field of health care as you can also work in other special fields such as Labor and Delivery, Trauma, and Forensic Nursing.
Labor and Delivery is where you provide care for pregnant women before/after delivery and help mothers to create a special bond with their newborn baby. One drawback of being a Labor and Delivery RN is dealing with an infant death which unfortunately, still happens in todays world. For education requirements, you only have to have your RN license to be a Labor and Delivery Nurse.
Next, there's becoming a Trauma Nurse where you have to respond quickly to multiple different trauma situations ivolving many people at one time. You must have clarity and decisiveness to unexpected events which may occur to be a successful Trauma Nurse. Accurate decisions must be made on the blink of an eye for the patient as their lives are in your hands. On the education requirements to be a Trauma Nurse, you must already have a RN license and a Diploma or BSN.
Then, there's becoming a Forensic Nurse. When you're a Forensic Nurse, you will get the opportunities to work with Law Enforcement, the perpetrators, and the victims themselves. Your duties will include examining a crime victims’ injuries, the collection of evidence, and possibly the rehabilitation of criminals. The challenge for being a Forensice Nurse is the task of working with dangerous criminals. You must be mentally prepared for whatever they may do to their victims.
