Far From Heaven

Far from Heaven is a film about a 1950s housewife, living in suburban country. The film was done in the style of 1950s. It deals with some issues such as race, sexuality and class. There is a perfect mother and wife. Her husband is a homosexual. Until Cathy, learns that her husband, Frank is a homosexual, they have a good life. One evening Cathy sees her husband while he is kissing another man passionately. She cannot divorce from her husband, because she does not want to destruct her marriage. At he same time, she meets with Raymond Deagon. She goes to him for comfort. She begins to fall in love with him. They spend good time together.but their relationship causes some bad consequences for him and his daugher. On the other side, Frank cannot supress his desires of homosexuality. When he and his wife went to holiday, he falls in love with another man. When they return from holiday, he wants to divorce from her wife. It is because of both he loves a man and a gossip which rises up among whites that about his wife and a black man. But Cathy does not want to damage her marriage. Their life becomes monoton. But at the end, they divorce and the film ends with saddness.
Melodrama focuses on the point of view of the victim. “ the films present all the characters convincingly as victims, but it takes a single victim’s visible suffering to recognize moral integrity as underlying the traumatized actions.” In this film, we see a woman, who suffers from her husband’s different desires, her marriage and her feelings to a black man , as a victim. Her life totally changes without her control. Here is the woman suffers as a form of powerlesness. “ ın melodrama, the female lead usually has a primacy.”
