Solar energy is the science that I would like to study. There is so much that we do not understand about solar energy that is just waiting to be discovered! How we can get energy from the sun and use it to heat swimming pools, to make electricity, to help grow plants in greenhouses, to power vehicles and much more boggles my mind. It is amazing how we can harness all that potential energy from the sun and produce electricity. We humans do not understand the full extent of the power we can get from the materials that God has given us!
One of the reasons why I want to study solar energy is because it is clean. Gas run engines pollute the air and costs a good amount of money to run. Nuclear energy is great, but we still have to store the rods that are taken from the nuclear plant and there is also the chance of nuclear fallout and meltdown.
Another reason why I want to study solar energy is because it is available! It is everywhere. With other energy sources we have to mine, work, drill, and risk accident and explosion just to power a single neighborhood. Yet every day, we have the answer beaming us in the face: the sun. Once a solar panel is put up it starts gathering energy and converting it to electricity. With that electricity we can power our homes and with more research and study, our vehicles as well.
The main reason I want to study solar energy is because of how much of an impact it can and is already having on third world countries. Of the nearly seven billion people that populate the planet there are an estimated three billion from third world countries living without electricity. With the help of solar energy this can change and is already changing. In countries such as Africa, solar energy is already making a difference. People that would otherwise have no way to power their homes can now have electricity thanks to solar power. Solar powered lighting can replace the kerosene lamps that are the most common source...
