This article is a speech made by the government of New Zealand, particularly the Ministry of Transport, addressing a Ports Forum to the fellow unionists. This article talks about the New Zealand’s transportations and logistics industries focusing on the points regarding the government’s promise of the development of it for the next few decades ending 2040. The Master Plan includes the revitalization of the coastal shipping. The benefits will be a reduced greenhouse gases as well as to better link its region.

Current percentage usage of the New Zealand’s roads stands at 66.5% which is largely the majority. The above plan is here to also reduce the dependability of road usage and instead, the authority is focusing on the shipping industry to further make use of the waterways.
The plan also talks above the increase of usage of inter-regional freight to 30% (coastal shipping), as well as such freight to 25% (rail) by the end of the master plan. Among other changes will be the need for more skilled people to support the improved facilities and capacity. Since it’s a $42million investment in total, the access to funds will be made easier to allow for more developments by both the public and the private sectors.
